CoEC would like to congratulate project partner and RWTH Chair of Technical Combustion Heinz Pitsch, who has been awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). This grant benefits exceptional leaders in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions and is one of the most prestigious research awards given by the European Union.
The aim of Dr. Pitsch´s new project, HYDROGENATE, is to collect data from experimental studies and numerical simulations and use it to derive a quantitative description of hydrogen combustion by combining physical expertise with artificial intelligence methods. This research will make an important contribution to the transition to renewable energy.
Dr. Pitsch and his team also lead the simulation methodologies work within CoEC, which enhances and develops numerical algorithms and physical models that will be used in large-scale simulations enabled by the increased computing power of (pre-)Exacale systems.
“The work we are doing in CoEC will definitely support HYDROGENATE´s studies on numerical simulations for hydrogen combustion processes,” said Dr. Pitsch. “I am proud to be part of an ecosystem where knowledge among projects can be shared and applied in the vision for a climate-neutral world.”
